چکیده
Ages of Chilean jack mackerel ( Trachurus murphyi ) in the southern Pacific Ocean were validated using three methods: 1) daily microincrement readings sagittal otoliths young-of-the year (YOY) fish to validate first annulus; 2) modal progression strong year-classes (PSYC) first, second and third annuli, 3) bomb radiocarbon analysis otolith cores absolute age older >38 cm fork length (FL). A Laird-Gompertz (LG) model was fitted (cm) at (days) relationship ranging from 3.4 25.0 FL 56 550 days age. The LG estimated a mean 22 end life, which large compared with through conventional ageing whole otoliths. comparison between annual growth bands otoliths, showed false increment formed 185 ± 34 translucent 352 79 days, corresponding annulus for 21.4 1.8 cm. PSYC coinciding recruits 2008 (age 0), tracked subsequent years high accuracy, attaining 23, 27 30 2009, 2010 2011, respectively. These modes identified as 1, 2 3 PSYC, matched 2, 4 5 increments Results confirmed that most ages correct, because Δ14C content adult core reference chronology. assayed based on chronology, ranged 7 13 sizes 39 60 FL. validation T. murphy addressed current study provided crucial information enhancing stock assessment output this important transboundary commercial species.

Variations in otolith patterns, sizes and body morphometrics of jack mackerel Trachurus japonicus juveniles.
Variations in otolith patterns, sizes and body morphometrics of jack mackerel Trachurus japonicus juveniles were investigated. Under transmitted light, translucent (W(t)) and opaque otoliths (W(o)) were detected in juveniles collected from Wakasa Bay between July 2005 and April 2006, whereas only opaque otoliths (G(o)) were detected in Goto-nada Sea individuals between May and June 2006. Three ...
متن کاملDetermining the effect of different cooking methods on the nutritional composition of salmon (Salmo salar) and chilean jack mackerel (Trachurus murphyi) fillets
The effect of four cooking methods was evaluated for proximate composition, fatty acid, calcium, iron, and zinc content in salmon and Chilean jack mackerel. The moisture content of steamed salmon decreased (64.94%) compared to the control (68.05%); a significant decrease was observed in Chilean jack mackerel in all the treatments when compared to the control (75.37%). Protein content in both sa...
متن کاملHistamine Formation by Morganella Morganii Isolated from Trachurus Murphyii (chilean Mackerel)
Morganella morganii , the most histaminogenic bacteria in chilean mackerel, was isolated and used to study the effect of temperature on h istamine production in this fish. Growth and histamine production rates at different initial pH (4.0, 5.5, 6.0, 7.0) and temperatures (10, 15, 20, 30 °C) were studied in batch cultures of M. morganii in a synthetic medium (TSBH2% histidine). An Arrheniustype...
متن کاملAccuracy of the Kirchhoff-Approximation and Kirchhoff-Ray-Mode Fish Swimbladder Acoustic Scattering Models
The acoustic backscatter from pressure release prolate spheroids and a three-dimensional representation of a fish swimbladder (Chilean jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus murphyi) was calculated using four target strength models (Kirchhoff-approximation, Kirchhoff-ray-mode, finite element solution of the Helmholtz equation, and prolate-spheroid-modal-series). Smoothly varying errors were found...
متن کاملEFFECT OF GUTTING ON RANCIDITY DEVELOPMENT IN HORSE MACKEREL (Trachurus trachurus) DURING FROZEN STORAGE
Gutting handling was applied to fresh horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) to study its effect on rancidity development during the frozen storage (up to 12 months at 20oC). For it, chemical (free fatty acids, FFA; peroxide value, PV; thiobarbituric acid index, TBA-i; fluorescence ratio, FR) and sensory (odour and taste) analyses were carried out. Results showed that gutting treatment of horse m...
